Confirm with the building department. Building requirements change through code updates, ordinance amendments, flood map revisions, and agency policy. The building department with jurisdiction over your property, and the official text of each code, statute, and ordinance, control in every case. Before you design, permit, buy, or build, confirm current requirements directly with that department and its official sources. Every jurisdiction page lists its official contact information and links.
Code editions. The Florida Building Code is updated on a three-year cycle. The 8th Edition (2023) is in effect until the 9th Edition (2026) takes effect on December 31, 2026. Each page states the edition it describes. Which edition applies to a project depends on the permit application date and the rules of the building department.
